“My experience as a summer associate at Felhaber exceeded all of my expectations. The firm’s approachable attorneys know how to work hard and have fun. Attorneys in essentially all of the firm’s practice areas gave me challenging research assignments for real clients. Each day was different – I attended court, met with clients, participated in arbitrations, and even argued a trial motion. By the end of my summer, I had a clear picture of what life at a reputable Twin Cities law firm was like and knew I wanted to be a part of it.”

“Felhaber’s summer associate program is geared to provide a real-life experience of what it is like to work as an associate at Felhaber. From day one, I had attorneys come directly to me with projects, which gave me the invaluable opportunity to learn how to manage and balance my workload. I also received a broad range of hands-on experiences. For example, I had the opportunity to write a summary judgment brief and then attend the hearing with the shareholder. By the end of the summer, I came away extremely impressed by the collegial atmosphere of the firm and the skill level of the attorneys. When presented with an offer to continue working at Felhaber, I can honestly say I had no hesitation in accepting.”

“Felhaber’s summer associate program is truly unique for a firm of its size and complexity. The minute you walk in the door as a summer associate, you are treated as a member of the Felhaber team – not just a law clerk. Our summer associates work alongside practicing attorneys on real cases and high-profile transactions for important clients. As a summer associate, I was asked to prepare briefs and related pleadings, assist with discovery, review and negotiate contracts, contact clients, give presentations to various practice groups and provide valuable insight to the overall strategy on important matters. I am certain that my summer associate experience at Felhaber placed me leaps and bounds ahead of my classmates in commencing our legal careers.”

Our Summer Associate Program

Spend the summer at Felhaber and experience the “real” practice of law. Our Summer Associate Program offers the best of both worlds – it is small enough that you will receive special attention, but big enough to provide a realistic, hands-on experience of what it is like to be an associate at the firm. You will have the opportunity to work with a number of attorneys on interesting and challenging projects in a variety of practice areas, and you will work directly with each attorney who assigns you a project. We believe that this is the best way for you to evaluate Felhaber as a place to practice law and for us to evaluate your potential as a lawyer.

Work Assignments

Felhaber attorneys assign work directly to summer associates. Although you will be asked to work on projects in many different areas of the law, you can tailor your experience to your particular areas of interest. We also make an effort to ensure that summer associates see more than just the law library – just as our associates do. In addition to research and writing, you will have opportunities to attend trials, depositions, closings and client meetings.

Feedback and Evaluation

Summer associates receive informal feedback and formal written evaluations. They are encouraged to seek feedback from the attorneys for whom they work. In addition, summer associates receive two formal performance evaluations during the summer. Each attorney who has assigned the summer associate work is invited to submit an evaluation that is reviewed with the summer associate by members of the Felhaber Recruitment Committee.

Mentoring

Every Felhaber summer associate is assigned a mentor who is a member of the Recruitment Committee. The mentor serves as a valuable resource on the inner workings of the firm, substantive law and other issues that arise during the summer. Your mentor will provide advice, support and feedback, and discuss issues involving the number and types of projects you are receiving.

In addition to the assigned mentor, the firm’s associates are available any time to answer questions about the firm, its attorneys or a specific assignment.
